Since 2013, Snowball has operated the credential management platform and cryptographic foundation behind the world's largest mobile wallet, transit, and digital car key programs. Today, the same foundation secures a new generation of connected products — governed as digital assets, from factory to field.
Snowball began in 2013, when a core team from NXP Semiconductors' Secure Service division set out as a strategic partner to NXP. The vision was to close a gap they'd spent careers watching widen — the technical complexity of managing credentials across device OEMs and service providers, and the fragmentation of the ecosystems they had to operate in.
We built that bridge first for mobile wallets, transit cards, and digital car keys — issuing 120M+ credentials across phones, vehicles, and transit networks. What began as credential infrastructure for people is today a cryptographic foundation carrying both — credentials for people, and trust for the connected devices around them — operating on certified infrastructure under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO/IEC 27001.
Today, the same cryptographic backbone powers OnBoard™ IoT Security — bringing factory-grade trust to every connected product, for its full lifetime.

Ciaran Fisher, born in England, founded Snowball in 2013 after thirty years in semiconductors and telecom across Europe and Asia. Before Snowball, he held senior roles at NXP Semiconductors, France Telecom, and Alcatel. He holds a BSc from Liverpool John Moores University and an MSc from Salford University.
