The Challenges

Physical key fobs are moving to digital car keys, and many Vehicle OEMs have already deployed proprietary BLE-based solutions.
CCC (Car Connectivity Consortium) goes further — unifying Apple, Samsung, and Android OEM wallets around NFC and UWB, and opening the global mobile wallet ecosystem to Vehicle OEMs.
But CCC also brings an entirely new level of complexity.

CCC Digital Key Demands a Full PKI-Based Security Stack — Across Cloud, Vehicle, and Mobile

CCC requires a full PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) — including CA (Certificate Authority) hierarchy and certificate chain, with certificates issued, managed, and revoked at the level of every vehicle and every digital car key — across every region and the entire vehicle lifecycle — a dedicated area of expertise that sits outside automotive engineering.
CCC requires an SE (Secure Element) in every vehicle, bringing SE lifecycle management and CCC Applet development, adaptation, and validation — for every SE chip model in the program.
CCC continues to evolve — from Release 2.0 to 3.0 to 4.0, each new release expands requirements across the entire program, and every existing implementation must keep pace.

Apple CarKey Requires MFi Certification. Every Android OEM Wallet Requires Its Own Integration

CCC provides a framework for mobile wallet integration, but stops short of implementation details. Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, and other Mobile OEMs each define their own SE authorization model, Wallet API, and business flow requirements beyond CCC. Every Mobile OEM wallet is a separate integration — different technical interfaces, different timelines, different rules.
Additionally, Apple requires Vehicle OEMs to complete CarKey MFi certification — covering server-side integration, CCC Applet certification, full Car Key use case validation, and end-to-end business flow review.

Digital Car Key Complexity Multiplies Across Every Vehicle Model and Every Hardware Configuration

Every vehicle program brings a different combination of MCUs (Microcontroller Units), Tier-1 suppliers, and ECU (Electronic Control Units) architectures — each requiring its own integration, validation, and debugging cycle. There is no reusable path. Every new vehicle model demands the same effort again.

Factory Secure Provisioning, Car Key Lifecycle, and OTA — Complex Individually, Even More So Together

Factory Secure Provisioning is never the same twice — every vehicle model and every Tier-1 production line requires independent configuration, integration, and validation, with provisioning data reported back to the OEM backend.
Car Key Lifecycle covers a wide range of use cases — owner pairing, key sharing, revocation, suspension, phone migration, and ownership transfer — each a multi-party operation. Take key sharing as an example: owner device, friend device, vehicle, and Vehicle OEM backend must all participate before a shared key becomes valid.
Digital car key updates cannot be delivered independently — they must be bundled with the vehicle's full OTA release, requiring integration into the vehicle's OTA pipeline for every update.

Platform Architecture

OnBoard™ Digital Car Key is a full-stack, CCC-compliant platform covering the complete digital car key lifecycle — from cloud to vehicle to mobile.

Core Capabilities

Deploying CCC digital keys is a long-term operational commitment — spanning security infrastructure, vehicle programs, mobile wallet ecosystems, factory production, and service lifecycle management.
OnBoard™ Digital Car Key unifies the capabilities required to manage this complexity at production scale.

01

One acceptance layer across standards.

CCC compliance requires a coherent system — PKI, vehicle SE management, CCC Applet development and validation, and Car Key use cases — all working together under one security model.
OnBoard™ Digital Car Key delivers these as one integrated platform, built to support CCC digital car key programs from integration through long-term operation.
02

Every Mobile Wallet, One Integration

OnBoard™ has integrated with Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, and other Mobile OEM wallets — covering server-side and client-side integration, SE authorization, business flows, and Apple CarKey MFi certification.
For Android OEMs without a native digital car key wallet, OnBoard™ provides the mobile-side digital key platform directly.
Support extends across phones and wearables.
Vehicle OEMs access all major mobile ecosystems through a single platform, without building or maintaining these technical integrations themselves.
03

Every Vehicle Model, Without Starting Over

OnBoard™ Digital Car Key provides vehicle-side SDK baseline that works across different MCUs and Tier-1 implementations, so each new vehicle model builds on what the platform has already validated.
Cloud-side capabilities are organized by vehicle model and ECU architecture, so adding a new model builds on what the platform has already handled.
04

Factory Secure Provisioning, at Any Scale

Provisioning data preparation for vehicle BCM and physical key fobs — by vehicle model, region, and business requirement.
Per-factory authorization, execution, and status reporting back to the Vehicle OEM — supporting different factories within a unified provisioning system.
One platform, one workflow — full visibility and control for every model, region, and factory.
05

Full Lifecycle and OTA, in One Platform

Full Lifecycle Coverage — owner pairing, key sharing, revocation, phone migration, and ownership transfer, coordinated across the backend, vehicle, and mobile wallet through a single platform.
TSP (Telematics Service Provider) Integration — the platform connects directly with Vehicle OEM TSPs, supporting multiple TSPs within the same program.
OTA Continuity — digital car key updates are bundled with the vehicle's OTA release, with key state, permissions, and personalization data intact after every update.
Operational Visibility — key status and lifecycle events are trackable at the level of every vehicle and every user, with remote termination available when needed.

Chery × OnBoard Digital Car Key

About Chery

Chery is one of China's largest vehicle OEMs, selling over 2.6 million vehicles globally in 2024 across more than 110 countries and regions. Chery has been China's top passenger car exporter for 22 consecutive years and is a Fortune Global 500 company.

The Challenges

Chery needed digital car keys to scale across a rapidly expanding vehicle portfolio — different Tier-1 suppliers, ECU architectures, and chip models, mobile ecosystems each requiring separate integration, an existing proprietary car key solution that had to coexist, and production and lifecycle operations that could not be rebuilt for every new model.

What Was Delivered

OnBoard™ Digital Car Key delivered end-to-end — from CCC security infrastructure and mobile ecosystem integration covering phones and wearables, to vehicle-side adaptation, factory secure provisioning, OTA continuity, and TSP integration. One platform. Full stack.
